She Was Determined
She's been mustering up the courage to go all the way under water. You can see it in her face. She was determined!
Ice Cream Truck
Ahh, the ice cream truck...where do I even begin? This has become such a major event in our household, I'm glad she only comes once a week. I don't think I could take the intensity this brings more than that!
Sam loves the ice cream truck just fine, but to Evie, this is Life. The Sunday night visit from Miss Casey keeps her going throughout the week. Monday morning Evie starts the countdown again to when The Ice Cream Truck will be back and she spends the week planning her order. Once Sunday morning comes, things really ramp up. She reminds me first thing in the morning that it's Ice Cream Truck day, and starts asking when she'll be here.
You can tell from Ms. Casey's face in the first picture that she knows us now; she knows our names, where we live, and she knows to stop by Franklin Street, the last stop on her way out of the neighborhood, even if it's dark. She knows a little blonde girl will be there, waiting for her.
We do this every week, stuff them full of sugar as the sun goes down (even on a school night). Eating sprinkles in our jammies. Yum!
Allen Fountains & Burgers
The kids and I spent the day in Allen, starting with an awesome lunch at Twisted Root Burger Co.
Twisted Root is a fun, quirky place to eat. Instead of taking your real name when you order, they assign you a celebrity name. We were given comedian and SNL star Amy Poehler, which was a riot considering we've been calling Evie "Baby Amy Poehler" since she was a toddler. Our little Amy Poehler ordered a grilled cheese and at the whole thing - this was a big deal for our picky eater!
Sam ordered a cheeseburger of his own and loved his as well. He's getting to be a better eater, too, both at home and when we're out. It's about time with these two, I tell you...
After lunch it was time to cool off at the splash park. I got several pictures of Evie, but only one of Sam because he was so busy entertaining the little boy in this picture. He's very good with (other people's) babies.
After the splash pad we were HOT and tired and needed to cool off before the long drive home, so we stopped for frozen yogurt. I grossed the kids out by getting myself "Tart" and "Avocado" yogurt. It was very good! Perfect end to a fun summer day!
Summer Bowling & Games
Gram and the kids and I went bowling and played games. Sam had been before, but this was Evie's first time doing either one.
Look at Sam's great form! He looks like a pro. He's a natural athelete.
We got a ramp to help Evie roll her ball down the lane. But she got to a point where she just wanted to throw it down the lane herself. She followed the same pattern every turn: squat, throw hard, then fling arms out to the side while watching the ball head toward the pins. And it would all happen very quickly with great concentration.
Both Sam and Evie had fun, but Evie's been asking to go back ever since we left. We may have to check it out next summer!
